An outside studio is helping with Star Citizen's Battlefield-like manner

The most recently clock time I played Star Citizen, I wandered around an extraterrestrial city, took off in a spaceship, got confused, and so crashed into that city. (Truly, I am a citizen of the stars.) The open universe is a bit daunting right now, only Cloud Imperium Games has been adding structured modes to its ever-expanding space sim, too. There's Arena Commander for dogfighting, Star Maritime for number one-soul shooting, and coming in the future, a 40-player combined infantry and vehicle combat mode named Theaters of Warfare.

Today, Overcast Imperium announced that other developer has been serving with Theaters of War since 2019: Firesprite, the UK-based studio apartment that worked with Sony to make believe PS4 pack-in The Playroom, as recovered as sci-fi revulsion game The Persistence.

It's not surprising that other set of hands is fiddling with the Star Citizen task (it's scarcely just one brave at this point). Mist Empire has studios in Los Angeles, Austin, Frankfurt, Wilmslow, and Derby, and has worked with a number of contractors throughout a decade of Star Citizen development, including Dead by Daylight studio Behaviour Interactive and production company Virtuos.

The Theaters of War mode is something ilk a mashup of Battlefield and Whizz Wars: Squadrons: Attackers and defenders battle through stages that jump on the control surface of a planet and conclude in an attack on an orbital space laboratory.

The mode was first demonstrated to Star Citizen backers in 2019, and closed in beta tests have continued since and then—a hand-picked group of backers named the Evocati are the solely invitees so far, but Theaters of War testament hit the National Trial Universe "yet," says Defile Imperium. There's nothing to a greater extent concrete than that timing-wise, but this is Star Citizen we're talking about, so that's to equal expected.

I've enclosed the 2019 monstrance of Theaters of State of war above. It's apparently changed a good chip since then, simply it's still pretty wild to run into a send on full of players depart from the anchor and and then land on an orbital space station. I imagine it's a technical quagmire, too—no surprisal that a few of the questions asked during an AMA about the mode past year had to bash with framerates.

While Firesprite is specifically working on Theaters of War, the studio's efforts make benefited scrap design for the larger Lead Citizen project, according to Cloud Imperium technical director of content Sean Tracy. That includes Squadron 42, the separate singleplayer halt starring Mark Hamill, Gary Oldman, and Gillian Anderson, which also has no release particular date—I'm departure to judge it'll live out around the same time as The Older Scrolls 6, and it's possible I'm being prodigal.

Tyler Wilde

Tyler has spent ended 1,200 hours acting Rocket League, and slightly fewer nitpicking the PC Gamer style guide. His primary tidings beat is game stores: Steam, Epic, and whatever launcher squeezes into our taskbars next.
